SBS // 2014 FIFA World Cup Campaign

Kin directed and edited the campaign for SBS’s coverage of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

The piece was built off SBS concepts that required a combination of Australian kids and Brazilian kids playing football, as well as the integration of actual World Cup footage.

In addition to this, all the children in the spot are connected to SBS via football development programs or SBS partnerships. This provided challenges but ultimately determined a lovely sense of connection and realism to the spots.

We were fortunate to visit the remote Northern Territory township of Borroloola, the source of an indigenous footballing program established by Australia’s first indigenous national footballer, John Moriarty. The Borroloola kids were working towards being a part of the World Cup Unity program which would get them over to Brazil for the 2014 World Cup. Fortunately they were able to make the trip all the way to Brazil! What an experience.

Our conditions were varied and crew minimal, meaning we embraced the conditions and scenarios, working efficiently and adapting as needed. We think the outcome is a good one, making the challenges just part of the adventure.
